"Una ventana al mar //A window to the Sea"
La oportunidad de ver en un mismo espacio, y muy de cerca, a especies marinas de gran tamaño y a pequeñas especies de los arrecifes, es el mayor atractivo de la nueva pecera oceánica del Acuario Mazatlán.
Bajo un millón 600 mil litros de agua de mar, esta vista panorámica le permite observar la forma, nado y coexistencia de varias especies de la fauna marina de la región, instaladas en un arrecife coralino artificial.
Sorpréndase con tiburones y tortugas de las especies golfina, carey y prieta; enormes pargos coconacos y meros gigantes.
Parado frente a este gran tanque podrá admirar el nado hipnoptizante de las majestuosas mantarrayas gavilán, pargos amarillos, prietos y colorados, de pequeños sábalos, pámpanos, chihuiles y cabrillas, los coloridos lábridos, los brillantes jureles y las monas alegres.
La pecera oceánica ofrece una ventana a las aguas del Golfo de California, sitio que por su biodiversidad es considerado el Acuario del Mundo.
La Pecera Oceánica
Contiene un volumen total de un millón 600 mil litros de agua salada, para albergar a casi 100 individuos marinos de diferentes especies y tamaños.
La ventana más grande mide 13.2 metros de largo por 3.2 metros de altura y ofrece una vista espectacular del ecosistema marino.
Se colocó una ventana de acrílico en el techo del pasillo de acceso para observar la vista inferior del nado de las especies exhibidas.
El Acuario de Mazatlán
Es un centro educativo y de entretenimiento donde la población y el turismo viven una integración con el medio ambiente, fauna marina y silvestre de la región.
El edificio principal tiene tres salas de peceras: la sección de peces marinos y medusas, la sección de peces marinos y exhibición de buceo y la sección de peces de agua dulce.
También tiene el Museo del Mar, tienda de regalos, una gran pecera central, auditorio y la pecera panorámica donde se exhiben lobos marinos.
En el jardín botánico están los teatros de aves y lobos marinos, respectivamente, el cocodrilario, el aviario, el cactario, el ranario, la fuente de sodas, una placita comercial y la pecera oceánica.
La fuente
Ubicada en el estacionamiento frontal del Acuario Mazatlán, la fuente, con una escultura de tres niños alimentando a un delfín, simboliza la amistad, el respeto y la convivencia que debe haber entre las especies marinas y el ser humano como habitantes de un mismo mundo, objetivos que fomenta el centro educativo y de atracciones entre sus visitantes.
Inmueble emblemático
Diseñado por un equipo interdisciplinario, integrado por el ingeniero Luis Kasuga Osaka, el biólogo Fidel Kamio, el ingeniero Octavio Hernández y el arquitecto Juan José León Loya, el edificio que ocupa el Acuario Mazatlán obtuvo en 1980 el Premio Nacional de Arquitectura por lo novedoso del proyecto.
Habitantes de la Pecera Oceánica
- Tiburón Limón
Es una especie propia del Océano Atlántico, se exhibe en Mazatlán por su buena adaptación al cautiverio.
- Mantarraya Gavilán
La espectacular Myliobatis californica es nativa del Mar de Cortés, habita en sus playas de fondos arenosos y lodosos.
- Pargo
Pez californiano de hábitos nocturnos, se alimenta de moluscos, crustáceos y peces pequeños.
- Mero gigante
Es el habitante más grande de los arrecifes, por ello es el emblema marino de la ciudad australiana de Queensland.
- Tortuga Carey
Por sus colores, la Eretmochelys imbricata es la tortuga marina más hermosa del Golfo de California; es de tamaño mediano.
- Lábrido arcoiris
Son peces pequeños y muy coloridos, la diferencia entre machos y hembras es el sentido de las rayas: en ellas son horizontales, en ellos verticales.
- Tortuga Golfina
Es la que más abunda a lo largo del Pacífico Mexicano, sin embargo, es una especie protegida porque está en peligro de extinción.
- Sábalo
Es un pez del Atlántico que viaja en cardúmenes que se trasladan vistosamente. En muchas regiones está amenazado por la contaminación.
- Chanos chanos
Es muy vistoso por su dorso azulado y los flancos plateados, abunda en las aguas de Mazatlán.
- Pampanito
Otro habitante de la bahía de Mazatlán, en particular de las áreas rocosas y con poca profundidad.

A window to the Sea
The new fish tank at the Mazatlan aquarium is the biggest in the country
The brand new fish tank at the Mazatlan Aquarium gives you the opportunity to view both large marine species and small reef creatures up close in the same space. The tank is one million six hundred thousand liters of sea water and features a panoramic view which allows you to observe how various marine species from the area swim, what they look like and how they co-exist. There is an artificial coral reef installed in the tank. You will be surprised by the sharks and big turtles and other large fish and creatures.
Standing in front of this large tank you will be able to witness the hypnotizing swimming style of majestic manta rays as well as dozens of other local fish from the Pacific Ocean. They are in the tank in all colors and sizes. The tank offers a glimpse into the waters of the Sea of Cortez, a place that is known as the Aquarium of the world because of its bio-diversity.
The Ocean Fish Tank
The tank contains 0ne million six hundred thousand liters of salt water and houses almost 100 different marine species of different sizes. The largest window measures 13 meters long and is 3 meters high and it offers a magnificent view of the marine ecosystem. An acrylic window is also places on the roof of the access passage that permits you to observe from underneath how the species swim.
Mazatlan Aquarium
The main building has three rooms of fish tanks. There are sections for marine fish and jellyfish, a section for marine fish and skin diving and a section for fresh water fish. There is also a Sea Museum, a gift shop, a large central tank, an auditorium and a panoramic tank where seals are exhibited. There is a botanic garden with a bird theater and a seal stage for live shows, a crocodile area, a bird exhibit, a cactus area, a frog exhibit, a soda fountain, a commercial plaza and the ocean fish tank.
The Fountain
The fountain is located in front of the Mazatlan aquarium and it is a sculpture of three boys feeding a dolphin. It symbolizes friendship, respect and living together, as is indicated by the three boys and the dolphin who together share this world. These are objectives that foment the education center and the attractions among visitors.
An Emblematic Building
The building that houses the aquarium was designed by an inter-disciplinary team integrate by the engineer Luis Osaka, the biologist Fidel Kamio, engineer Octavio Hernandez and the architect Juan Jose Leon Loya. In 1980 it won a national architecture award for its uniqueness.

Lemon Shark
This is specie from the Atlantic Ocean that is exhibited in Mazatlan because of its good adaptation to captivity.
Gavilan Manta Ray
The spectacular Myliobatis Californica is a native of the Sea of Cortez. It lives in sandy, muddy shallows.
Sea Bass
This is a California fish that has nocturnal habits. It feeds on mollusks, crustaceans and small fish.
Giant grouper
This is the largest inhabitant of coral reefs and is the marine emblem of Queensland, Australia
Carey Turtle
Because of its colors, the Eretmochelys Imbricata is considered the most beautiful marine turtle in the Sea of Cortez. It is mid-sized.
Rainbow Labrido
These are colorful, small fish. The difference between males and females is the direction of their stripes. Females have horizontal stripes and males vertical ones.
Golfina Turtle
These are the most abundant along the Mexican Pacific coast; however they are protected because they are in danger of extinction.
Sabalo
This is an Atlantic fish that travels in schools that move about in a showy fashion. They are threatened by contamination in many areas.
Chanos
It is very flamboyant in appearance because of its blue dorsal and silver flanks. There are many in the waters off Mazatlan.
Pampanito
This is another inhabitant of Mazatlan's bay, particularly in rocky, shallow areas.
